Mawson Lakes Environment Watch

(From Australian Greenhouse Office website)

Each year, the average Australian household generates about 14 tonnes of greenhouse gas.

Translating these figures to trees to offset for Mawson Lakes:

  • 14 tonnes per household x 2300 households in ML = 32200 tonnes

  • At 4.2 trees per tonne the total offset is 13500 trees.

On the figures shown in the above diagram:

  • Travel = 34% of 135000 = 46000 trees

  • Clothes and dishwashing = 2% = 2700 trees

  • Cooking =3% = 4000 trees

  • Lights =5% = 7000 trees

  • Wastes = 5% = 7000 trees

  • Water heating = 16% = 21600 trees

  • Heating and cooling = 11% =15000 trees

  • Fridge/freezer = 9% = 12000 treesAppliances = 15% = 20000 trees

Heating and cooling looks to be an appropriate target. It is achievable and it relates well to global WARMING and COOLING the globe.
