Mawson Lakes School Hall/Gymnasium nears completion

An "artist's impression" of the new Gymnasium/Hall & current on-site view of the construction

After nearly three years
of planning and around eight months of construction, the integrated $4m Hall/Gymnasium facility to be used for both School and Community purposes is almost complete. The building company, John Hindmarsh (South Australia) Pty Ltd. estimate that less than four weeks remain on the construction and major internal fittings phase with another 6 - 8 required for specialist internal fittings.

The planning and progression of the building both in layout, appearance and how it will be managed has been a collaborative process between Educational interests and Community representation. A Management Committee has been established and finer details worked on in a committed manner ensuring that the Hall - to be named in the next few weeks - will serve as both an enhancement to the functioning of Mawson Lakes School and provide access to a great venue for the local Community.

The internal structuring of the Hall will allow access to a kitchen area, toilets and a number of smaller 'tutorial' style rooms. The main 'gym' area will have a line marked floor surface that accommodates sports such as basketball and badminton.
The wonderful advantage that the gymnasium will provide for Mawson Lakes School is an indoor facility where all the school’s 650 students can assemble, conduct performances, PE programs, and make use of additional classrooms. Also part and parcel of the design are a spacious foyer, storage areas and a compact central 'office'. Many of the communal and school areas have internal, removable 'partitioning features' which allow for extending or reducing of floor space; thus giving the users more options on how to make use of the various rooms. Views over Mobara park and the School's East campus respectively create a spacious feeling in the Hall and an evaporative cooling system will provide the temperature control required for comfortable use of the area.
